Standard Class 7MT 4-6-2 No. 70043 "Earl Kitchener" at Leighton Buzzard on 25th June 1964. On this date the Class 40 hauling the 14.25 from London Euston to Liverpool had failed near Cheddington. The Britannia was hauling a down freight, double heading with a Type 2 Sulzer diesel (later Class 24), and propelled the failed train to Leighton Buzzard. At this point the steam loco removed the Class 40, placed it in the goods shed, then took the Liverpool train on to Rugby where it was replaced by an AC electric locomotive. An eventful journey.
