Penistone station looking westwards on 22nd January 1983 with rusty rails on the former 'Woodhead' route to Manchester. The passenger service was withdrawn on 4 January 1970 and the line beyond Penistone closed to freight on 17 July 1981. Note that the signal at the end of the platform is still showing a red aspect.
