On returning from a day photographing steam on the Settle-Carlisle line I saw 2 ballast workings waiting at Beattock Summit on the up main and up loop. Due to lineside vegetation this was the only possible photograph to be obtained. On the main line stopped at the signal is No. 37520+37410 with a ballast working. In the loop is 2 unidentified 37's also stopped at the signal with another ballast. This was on Saturday 24th April 1999 at 2035hrs.
