Class 47/4 No. 47401 passes Brookmans Park Station heading for the capital with a scruffy set of Mark 1 coaches on 9th December 1977. Delivered new to Finsbury Park MPD, London during September 1962 as the pioneer Class 47 D1500. Renumbered as a Class 47/4 No. 47401 under TOPS in November 1973 the loco remained allocated to the East Coast main line for most of it's working life. Upon withdrawl in July 1992 preservationists stepped in to prevent the class leader from being scrapped and the loco can now be found at the Midland Railway Centre, Butterley.
