Class 40 No. 40142 is approaching the northern end of the Tay Bridge with a long train of Mark 1 coaching stock heading towards Dundee. Not one of the Class 40's allocated to Scotland from new No. 40142 transferred to Haymarket MPD from Springs Branch Wigan during May 1974. It was to be the only Split Headcode Class 40 to be allocated to Haymarket but not being dual braked made it an early candidate for withdrawl which took place in April 1980 two years after I took this photo. No. 40142 was scrapped at BREL Crewe Works during September 1983.
