Seen around 1986, the station building at Mdina, Malta formed one end of the Malta Railway. This metre gauge line ran from an underground station in Valetta opening in 1883 to closure in 1931. Only 7 miles long the uphill journey from Valetta took 35 minutes while the return took a speedy 30 minutes. Following an air raid by the Italian Air Force in 1940 Mussolini claimed to have destroyed the Maltese Rail system, nine years after its closure!
