On 30th June 2014 work commenced on lifting the final stretch of the Cambridge to St Ives branch line in preparation for linking the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway to the soon to be built Cambridge Science Park railway station. Around 600 metres of sleepers from Milton Road to Chesterton Junction are seen here being lifted on 4th July 2014. From behind where the photographer is standing the Busway stretches for around 12 miles to St Ives. The branch line to St Ives was closed to passenger traffic in 1970, and the last aggregate trains ran along part of the line in the early 1990's. It has been indicated that this spur to the new station will be a conventional tarmac roadway rather than a concrete guideway as used for the rest of the route to St Ives.
