Provincial-operated Class 47 No. 47443 is about to plunge into Standedge Tunnel on 9.01 Liverpool Lime St-Newcastle on 29th March 1989. Uniquely in steam days water troughs were operational within the Western end of the Tunnel and the remains of the Water Storage Tank can be glimpsed on the left hand corner of the picture still in situ 20 years after the end of steam.
