On 15th June 1988 Class 47 No. 47656 approaches Hexham with a three carriage Newcastle - Carlisle service during a period in 1988 when these services were loco hauled to cover for a DMU shortage. Introduced in February 1964 as D1719, the locomotive subsequently became 47128 and 47656 before further renumbering to 47811 in the intercity fleet. Reliveried into First Great Western green, the locomotive was acquired by Freightliner in 2004 and now languishes at Crewe Basford Hall.
