The unusual pairing of Bulleid Pacific No. 34052 'Lord Dowding' (as currently configured) and LMS 4-6-0 No. 46100 'Royal Scot' is due to be working the final leg of the Great Britain X railtour on 7th May 2017, meriting a late evening visit to the Vale of White Horse, where the electrification masts are beginning to make their unwelcome presence felt. The only satisfactory angle at the bridge near Bourton involves a wide-angle shot directly into the sun. The disk of the sun is temporarily masked by light cloud which together with the use of a graduated filter provides a reasonably balanced exposure. The setting sun is perhaps symbolic of the end of traditional steam photography on the GW main line!
