Waiting at the decent at one of the three passing points on Snowdon, is No. 9 'Ninian' powered by 320 Horsepower (238 kW) six cylinder turbocharged Rolls Royce diesel engines - The Snowdon track was designed in Swithzerland in 1895 The track gauge is 2ft 71/2 inches between the rails. The total track length is 4 miles with a steepest gradient of 1 in 5.5 (or 1 meter rise every 5.5m travelled). Snowdon Mountain Railway is the only public rack and pinion railway in the United Kingdom, on 24th June 2017.
