On what is believed to be the first occasion that Class 170 'Turbostar' DMUs have visited Bristol Temple Meads, two of the aforementioned DMUs are seen entering the station having worked a trial ECS run from Birmingham New Street with 'Cross-Country' No. 170519 leading. Upon arrival at the station, both units underwent gauging trials before moving on to Barton Hill depot. Later that day the working returned to Tyseley with 170522 leading on 28th September 2017. Although the Class had gained route clearance through Westerleigh junction, Bristol Parkway and Pilning some years ago, hitherto this was not thought to have extended towards Filton and Temple Meads.
