First TransPennine Express Class 350/4 Siemens 'Desiro' No. 350405 departs Carlisle Station, working the 06:15 Edinburgh to Preston service on 16th September 2017, while blue-liveried Class 67 No. 67003, stands in the centre road, having recently uncoupled from hauling the diverted VTEC 06:20 Newcastle to Edinburgh Service, as a result of the ECML being closed north of Berwick due to Engineering works. Virgin Trains (West Coast) Class 390/0 Alstom 'Pendolino' No. 390001 'Virgin Pioneer' stands at Platform 4 prior to working the 09:16 Carlisle to Polmadie Car M.D. service. The severely damaged front access panel was caused as a result of it hitting an object near Carstairs just after 05.00, while working the 04:26 Glasgow Central to London Euston service, which caused its termination at Carlisle, and resulted in disruption to this section of the WCML for around four hours.
