Seen from the guards van on a Colwick to Derby Friargate engineering working on 16th November 1966 approaching Awsworth is the Giltbrook Viaduct, known locally as 40 Bridges (actually 43 arches). The viaduct, consisting of 6 million bricks and in a S shape on the GN line to Pinxton, closed to passenger traffic in January 1963 and was demolished for the Eastwood A610 bypass in 1973. The eighth arch from the right had rooms built for the construction teams.
