Occasional engineer's trains make up for the lack of regular freight at the weekend on the Berks & Hants line - not that the quarry output has started to ramp up yet after the end of year break. Of special interest are the Colas trains which bring just about our only sightings of Class 70 units - on 6th January 2019 No. 70816 is in charge of the a short train of ballast wagons en route from Hinksey Sidings for work on the track near Rhoose is S Wales, seen thrumming by an array of driver information boards at Hungerford - which clearly cannot accommodate full length express services.
