DMU 4002 has just arrived at Portrush platform 2 with the 1445hrs from Coleraine on 1st May 2019. Portrush station is having £5.6 million spent on a refurbishment for the upcoming Open Golf tournament in July. The work includes 3 platforms, awnings and a large ticket hall. Once the four day golf tournament is over services will revert to one train an hour to Coleraine, with the train being in the station for just 10 minutes. Trains can only use platform 2 as the line from Coleraine is treated as one long siding; unless the cabin (signal box) is swithched on. Local rail staff stated there is only one employer trained in the use of the cabin! So once the golf is over, platforms 1 & 3 will become redundant once again.
