An exceptionally atmospheric scene at Corfe Castle station on the Swanage Railway is recorded in this image of the kind possibly not seen for many years with the exception of some special events. However, this action was recorded at such an event, the railways 2018 Autumn Steam Gala which had the BR Exchange Trials of 1948 as the theme. On the 13th October 2018, there is an abundance of steam with a trio of locos at Corfe Castle as home based loco SR Bulleid Battle of Britain Pacific No. 34072 257 Squadron departs with a service to Swanage while in the centre at the up platform LMS Princess Coronation Class Pacific No. 6233 Duchess of Sutherland is on the rear of a train waiting to depart for River Frome, this train being hauled by SR U Class Mogul No. 31806. While this action is taking place LMS Class 5MT 4-6-0 No. 44871 can be seen in the siding awaiting its next duty tucked in behind Class 33 Crompton No. 33111.
