Heading the outward "Scarborough Spa Express" on On 29 July 2009, LMS Class 5 no. 45407 "The Lancashire Fusilier" is held at Poppleton awaiting the arrival of the Northern Trains service from Harrogate formed of unit 150207, before departing onto the single line section. Poppleton still has semaphore signals and hand operated crossing gates, although a gantry for a colour light signal which was erected many years ago, can be seen on the platform, a modernisation scheme which was never commissioned.
