Midland Railway Compound 4-4-0 No. 1000, built at the Derby Works in 1902, was of a class that eventually numbered 240. The mainstay of the LMS netwok, initially reserved for hauling express, they were somewhat relegated in the 1930s to pulling all manner of passenger trains. Seen here in Highley Engine House, sporting its Midland maroon livery, it is the last remaining example. Seen at the Severn Valley Railway on 19th June 2010.
