Work started to demolish the old Wetmore Road Bridge at Burton-on-Trent over the Christmas shutdown. This photograph was taken during the morning of Boxing Day, 26th December 2012, a day after the work on demolition had commenced and clearly shows the clearing up operation had almost been completed. The demolition of the bridge was required in order to allow larger-size container traffic on this route and is one of a number of bridges on the route that will need replacing under the multi-million pound project. It is assumed that the stumps remaining from the old structure(located between the up and down main lines and the respective goods lines) may be required for the new bridge when it is installed over the coming months.
