BR Standard 8P Pacific No. 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' was withdrawn in November 1962 and was stored firstly at Crewe North Depot and then at Crewe Works, where it is seen outside the Works Paint Shop on 15th August 1965. Eventually going to Barry scrapyard in March 1967 No. 71000 was rescued in April 1974. In 2014 No. 71000 has returned to Crewe 60 years after being built there, and is waiting renovation back to mainline standards.
