The 3ft gauge Douglas Bay Horse Tramway was constructed in 1876 by Gordon Lightfoot, a retired civil engineer. Running between Victoria Pier and Derby Castle, it is operated by 23 tramcars and 45 horses. In the summer of 2003, one horsepower tramcar No. 33 waits at the Derby Castle terminus.
