On 5th September 2017, Class 800s Nos. 800001 and 800002 become the first IEPs to work into Edinburgh Waverley, with a test run from Doncaster Carr Depot, after an earlier test train, two days before, had been turned back at Tyne Yard. On the return journey, there was OHL damage at Dunbar and it was necessary to pass this using the on-board diesel engines.
