Recently celebrating its first birthday, the West side Express, or WES, links two suburban areas around Portland, Beaverton and Wilsonville, coupling residential and high-tech business areas, and providing links onward in each direction via light rail and buses. In contrast with many renewed commuter rail corridors, WES, does not go through the city centre, but runs on existing freight tracks, shared with regular traffic from the local short line operator.
