Just as things were starting to improve after the severe flooding in the South West, and the line between Taunton and Tiverton Parkway had re-opened to traffic, disaster struck! A severe landslide on the coastline between Teignmouth and Dawlish closed both the Up and Down Lines around 20:15hrs. 1C89 17:03 London Paddington to Penzance seen here at Exeter St Davids with Class 43 No. 43177 leading and No. 43147 at the rear has been terminated. This was one of the first trains to use the re-opened lines. It was shunted as ECS over to Platform 5. On the Up line, No. 43186 in Jubilee Livery was on the 17:39 ex Penzance to London Paddington, but was terminated at Newton Abbot.
