Following their reported failure with BR the Class 14 fleet was offered for sale to industrial concerns, one of which was the British Steel Corporation (BSC) for use in its ironstone quarries in the Northamptonshire / Lincolnshire area. Whilst normally confined to the quarry network of lines No. D9520 [BSC No. 45] made a rare visit to BR metals on 29th March 1978 to collect a train of ironstone that had been delivered by the local trip working from Glendon Quarry - a BR working for a Class 47 locomotive.
