Thursday 24th April 1986 finds Station Pilot Class 08 No. 08764 stabled in the Parcels Platforms at the east end of Edinburgh Waverley Station. Built at BR Horwich Works and delivered to BR as No. D3932 in March 1961 she had a long association with Scotland. Allocated to Aberdeen Ferryhill by 1974, and now renumbered as Class 08 No. 08764, she would transfer south to Thornton, Fife by 1985. At the time of this picture Edinburgh Haymarket DMD was home as can be seen by the Depot emblem on the front side panel of the loco. The extra large numbers on the cabside are unusual. This was quite common on steam locos overhauled at St Rollox Works in Glasgow in the 50's and 60's but not common on diesels. Also of note is the very clean condition of the loco. Withdrawn 2 years later during May 1988, instead of being scrapped No. 08764 was sold to RFS Industries, Kilnhurst. 26 years later in 2014 she is still operational in Industrial use being recently noted at Wabtec Doncaster as Works Pilot, having previously performed similar duties at Tilbury Riverside Freight Terminal in Essex.
