On the very last day of scheduled BR steam, Stanier Class 5MT 4-6-0 No. 44894 takes water at Rose Grove MPD on 4th August 1968. Double-headed with No. 44871, the pair hauled the Manchester Victoria - Huddersfield - Wigan Wallgate - Bootle - Stockport leg of 1Z78, the SLS 'Fairwell to Steam' railtour which had originated at Birmingham New Street, hauled by D7588. The loco was new from Crewe Works in September 1945 as LMS No. 4894 and was cut-up by Drapers of Hull during May 1969.
