An idyllic scene on 25th June 1972 sees 'Western' Class diesel hydraulic No. D1028 'Western Hussar' drifting along the sea wall on the approach to Dawlish with 1B45, the 11.30 London Paddington - Penzance 'Cornish Riviera Limited'. The section of double track and the sea wall adjacent to the rear four coaches has recently been swept away in severe storms and high tides. The loco was withdrawn in October 1976 and cut up at Swindon Works during June 1979.
