Ancient and modern. No. 158788 passes through Ancaster station at 11.48 on Monday 27th June 2011 working the 10.45 Nottingham - Skegness service. The Great Northerm signal box in view was built 138 years ago in 1873 and is going nowhere in the near future. It now works absolute block to Rauceby using a wonderful old GN block instrument and also retaining a 30 lever Saxby & Farmer rocker frame installed in 1887, by contrast in the opposite direction the line is track circuit block to the new Allington Junction signal box complete with axle counters and other such current wonders of the age.
