Class 59/0 No. 59001 is in charge of the week-daily empties returning to Whatley Quarry from Acton on 30th June 2017. The venerably old buffer stop marks the end of the reversing siding at Bedwyn used by the three-car GWR turbo units serving London Paddington from this corner of rural Wiltshire. At one time at threat from the GWR electrification programme, some direct services will be retained, to be operated by 5-car IEP bi-mode units. Although the current 3-car Stop is well short of the actual stop, it seems likely that the siding will need to be extended .. across the route of a footpath crossing which provides access to the canal towpath beyond the lineside bushes!
